The title of this review should give you a good idea of what I’m going to talk about but with this caveat: I love to Escorts sex and statistics, but I hate lies. That’s why I was so excited when the release of her book was announced, which addresses many of the common lies that prohibitionists purposefully spin about the Escorts sex industry. I’ve been an Escorts sex worker for a long time, so I know firsthand that a lot of the information we get from prohibitionists is, to put it kindly, false. In addition to being a former call girl, she is also a scientist and skilled in statistical analysis.
There are a few things you should know about Escorts sex work
Advocates. First, they fight a dirty fight. I can barely explain what they’ve put Escorts sex workers through, scattering our legal names all over the internet with the clear intent of harming our families and us. They’ve experienced threats, tax investigations, and calls to social services, not to mention accusations that we are participating in a vast “crime.” FYI, it doesn’t exist, but I wish you’d send it to me if I simply couldn’t find it. Being a teenager costs money, as does travelling to multiple countries to attend demonstrations, conferences, and meetings.
The next thing you need to know is that, ironically, the anti-Escorts sex worker demographic is wealthy. They receive subsidies from the government and donations from well-meaning people who believe they are helping, not to mention monetary compensation from the courts. The funds from the courts were initially taken from police raids taken from sex workers who were just trying to make a living. So those who claim to be sex workers go to court with their money to watch Escorts sex workers receive criminal charges that last a lifetime. By the way, this is what they call “support”. Yes, really.
Teetotalers’ Lies
The last and perhaps most important fact about teetotalers is that they lie constantly. And this is where this book shines. Not only is this book very well written and entertaining, but it also expertly exposes the most commonly used lies. In some cases, studies blocked from the start are used endlessly to represent the entire industry, and in other cases, they are simply fabrications. When she reminisces about her time as a pathologist and recounts the horrific scenes of murdered sex workers, prohibitionists would dismiss her death as inevitable. This is a whole new level of brutality.
This book is not written for a scientific audience but is easy to digest and understand. It is also terrifying and genuinely eye-opening to see how far prohibitionists will go to protect a precious resource. It’s short and sweet, so if you’re like me and have a good attention span, you’ll enjoy this book too.
This book gets to the heart of a particularly ugly and Escorts debate, so I highly recommend it. The feminist perspective on Escorts sex work has been profoundly and poignantly presented on every conceivable platform. But as Escorts sex workers, we know our lives, no matter how much we get yelled at, and that’s our specialty.
Just last weekend, I was talking to an old and very good friend of mine in Ireland about my time working as a game saboteur. She was horrified to learn of the prohibitionists’ tactics in denying us our fundamental human rights: “At least in our day, they just pushed us into a ditch? They sent a pack of dogs into the ditch, poured sulfuric acid on one of them, and set the ditch on fire. No matter how thick your skin, sulfuric acid burns. So there you have it.
